New release: Il turismo in Casentino

Casentino is a secluded valley in Tuscany, home to ancient forests, evocative monasteries, and quietly charming villages. Its tourism history, however, has never been linear: amidst enthusiasm and hardship, ambitious projects and structural weaknesses, this land has experienced an uneven and unfinished journey. From Carlo Beni’s 19th-century guidebook to the 1960s, from the spiritual call of Camaldoli and La Verna to the emergence of agritourism and hiking trails, tourism in Casentino has always oscillated between hopes for development and concrete limitations. Geographical marginality, poor infrastructure, and fragmented policies have repeatedly slowed its progress, preventing the transformation of its environmental and cultural riches into a true tourism identity. Today, Casentino remains a territory in flux, where the allure of unspoiled nature and a widespread heritage coexists with the search for new perspectives, balancing an identity to be preserved and a future to be built.
