The Virtual Center for the Study of Global Asymmetries is conceived as a space for research, documentation, and critical discussion on the historical and contemporary forms of inequality. Its aim is to investigate economic, cultural, social, environmental, technological, and power asymmetries across global societies, bringing into dialogue global history, social history, environmental history, geopolitics, and cultural studies.
The Center approaches asymmetries not merely as quantitative differences between regions, groups, or institutions, but as historically constructed relationships: center and periphery, domination and dependence, inclusion and exclusion, access and deprivation, visibility and invisibility. From this perspective, the study of asymmetries provides a lens through which global processes can be understood in terms of conflict, hierarchy, unequal exchange, and the selective circulation of knowledge, resources, and power.
